Post Subject: Search facility

Dear Rtn Viswanathan,

What we need is actually a facility to search through all the posts ... that will be the fastest way to find something you are looking for.

I have added this to my ToDo list and will implement as soon as possible. Time is the only constraint right now.

There are two ways to do this search. One is real time search and the other is indexed search. In real time search, the search actually takes place only when somebody enters a search keyword. The downside to this method is that, as the postings increase (we already have 7900+ topics and about 15000+ posts in our database), it will take really long time to finish the search.

The other method is to create an index for search at pre-determined intervals (say once a day) and retrieve the results from the index. This will be fast, but not real-time. That is, the results will display only posts made until the previous index.

Which would our members prefer ?

Regards.

Post Subject:

thanks rtn.JK awesome the amount of thought you have put into this process is mind boggling, and i really appreciate the logic of the whole thought process. at one point you try and get involved in the exercise, and at the same time, you have made sure that rotarians ( and we are good at being emotional ) dont overdo it, and automatically there is an overdrive block in place - absolutely brilliant. thanks for the info, and i have learnt something new and different today rgards YIE ps my dear AG PCS, i am sure the explanation that rtn.JK has given means that the no: of messages that we can send will be based on the usage of that facility by all and some of our members and is subject to an oaveral limit of the total number of members in our club. rtn.JK's presentation is absolutely fascinating.

Post Subject: There is no problem ...

Dear Rtn Soundara Rajan,

The motivational mails module is designed in such a way that any member who has not logged in during the last 7 days would receive not more than one mail in the next 7 days, whether they are sent by one or more members of the same club.

Example: Your club has 84 members, and assume 70 of them have not logged in during the last 7 days. The maximum mails you can send in a day is 12 (84/7). Like you, other members of your club also can send a maximum of 12 per day. If you and 5 or more other members send 12 or less each, but cover all the 70 on a single day, then no one else can send any more mails during the remaining days of the week. Every time you go there, you will see only the names of the members who haven't been sent a mail during the last 7 days. However, this will change on a daily basis.

I have checked the data in your case and see that you and your fellow-Rotarians have covered all your non-visiting members in the first one or two days of the week. So, when you go there again on the remaining days of the week, all are already covered for the week. That is why you are getting the said message.

Regards,

Rtn James Kalassery,
DWM.
